PROVO — Four people were injured Monday afternoon when a driver turned in front of another car in Provo Canyon.

At about 12:45 p.m. a Chevrolet Suburban traveling south on U.S. 189 attempted to make a U-turn and turned in front of a Nissan Versa that was also traveling south, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The driver of the Nissan attempted turning to avoid a collision but struck the left side of the Suburban.

The three women in the Suburban were not injured but all four occupants of the Nissan were transported to a hospital, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The driver, 44-year-old Ruth Peterson of Springville, sustained a broken back and the front passenger, an 18-year-old whose identity has not been released, received back and rib injuries.

The other two occupants of the Nissan, a 16-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy, received injuries to leg, side and head.

The driver of the Suburban, 19-year-old Erin Lambert of Kingman, Ariz, was cited in the incident.
