SALT LAKE CITY — Bees infielder Jimmy Swift has bounced around the country in his still young and blossoming career.
From the Northwest to coastal Myrtle Beach, S.C., and through the plains of Arkansas to the Wasatch Front, Swift has made his way through the grind all while never really establishing himself at one position.
"Everywhere, really," said Swift when asked about where he feels most comfortable on the field. "I've bounced around ever since I've been in pro ball, so I haven't really had a set spot."
Acquired by the Angels as a free agent back in December, Swift is hitting .349 with 22 hits and five doubles through 19 games with the Bees.
Swift has been especially bright on the defensive side of the ball, which was highlighted Thursday night with a diving catch to start the fifth inning of the Bees' 2-1 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
It's just what this ballclub has needed, having lost 12 of its previous 17 games.
"Some of the guys say that's the best thing about baseball is you've got tomorrow. We don’t ever have to wait awhile to play again and turn it around," said Swift.
Although Swift finished 0 for 3, the infielder drove in the game's winning run with a walk-off sacrifice fly that scored Roberto Lopez.
"We were going on contact in that situation. Jimmy got that ball out in right field deep enough and Lopez made it really close," said Bees manager Keith Johnson postgame. "We were fortunate enough to get that run across, and leave them on the field in that situation and win the ballgame."
NOTEBOOK: In his sixth start of the season for Salt Lake, A.J. Schugel had a solid night on the mound. Schugel pitched just over six innings, striking out five batters while giving up on earned run and six hits. With 100 pitches, Schugel delivered 64 strikes and 36 balls.
STREAKING: Both Luis Rodriguez and Efren Navarro kept their respective hitting streaks alive Thursday night. Rodrigues finished the game 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored and extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Meanwhile, Navarro moved to nine consecutive games with a hit, finishing Thursday's game 2 for 4 with an RBI.
ATTENDANCE: On a crisp Thursday night, 4,025 saw it fit to descend on Spring Mobile Ballpark to cheer the home team to victory.
