Oscar W. Wilkins1927 ~ 2013Sandy, UtahOscar Wayne Wilkins, age 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 29, 2013 at the home of his son in Sandy, Utah. He was born to Ruben & Lillis Moffett Wilkins on September 29, 1927 in Mountain Home, Utah in the Uintah Basin. He enjoyed growing up on the farm with his 2 sisters and brother. At a young age, Wayne's father died and his family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah.Wayne was truly fortunate in life. He loved his profession and was never more comfortable than when he was behind the wheel of a big rig. He spent 56 years on the road and taught his sons the love of driving. He truly was "King of the Road" in part because so many people knew him. He was known to stop and help stranded motorists as often as he was able. Towards the end of his career, he drove a school bus for all ages of school children including handicapped students. Among his favorite duties were transporting the students on fieldtrips and to various sporting activities. He received many awards throughout his illustrious career. Perhaps the greatest of which is a 56-year driving career without ever receiving a ticket for a moving traffic violation. Wayne also loved to fish. Every July he would visit Fishing Bridge Yellowstone. Here he would commune with nature and pursue his passion for fishing. He married Delpha Blanchfield in 1949 and together they raised one daughter and three sons. They later divorced. He then married Flora Dunbar, and they spent the following 40 years together.Wayne is survived by his wife, Flora; daughter, Alpha (Clyde) Shreve; son, Rick (Juvon) Wilkins; son, Larry (Debra) Wilkins; and from Flora's family Leonard and Diane Mecham; Gary and Christine Mecham; Linda Murphy, Shirley Dunbar, and Lori Dunbar. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ralph, and sisters, Madeline and Winonna.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 12:30pm-2pm at the same location. Interment to follow the services at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
