Marjorie Young FranzBeloved wife, mother, sister and friendMarjorie Young Franz, age 67, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2013 with her children at her side. She fought ovarian cancer for 3 1/2 years with bravery, dignity, and grace, and those attributes carried her through to the end. Rest in peace, dear sweet Momma.Margie was born in Salt Lake City on April 27, 1946 to George William Jr. & Phyllis Rosevear Young, the youngest of three children. After graduating from Highland High School, she earned an associates degree in dental assisting from Stevens-Henager College and worked in that profession before starting a family. Margie married her sweetheart, John C. Franz, on June 5, 1970 at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They had a wonderful marriage and relationship. They had three children together. When John passed away in 1987, Margie soldiered on and raised the kids in the manner they had planned. She was a strong, independent lady who always cared for her family and home without missing a beat. She loved baking (banana bread her specialty), keeping her lovely home, Halloween, candied apples, cotton candy, hot cross buns, chocolate cake, diet Coke, her friends, a good laugh, her grandchildren and her faithful shih-tzu puppy, Sammy Doodles. Throughout the trials of her life, Margie always held her head high. She will be deeply missed.Marjorie is survived by two children: Shane (Sharon) Franz and Shannon (Bryan) Strate; four adoring grandchildren: John, Paul, Vivienne and Daphne; her brother George W. Young III, "sister-cousin" Charlene Krell, and other family & wonderful friends. Preceded in death by her husband John, son Daniel, parents, sister Rosalind, close friends and her faithful canine companion Sammy. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mark Dodson, Dr. Elizabeth Prystas, the entire staff at Wasatch Oncology (who became dear friends) and caregivers. (The candy-apple photo is for you thanks for giving us this time to make these wonderful memories.) Your loving care and concern made the burden of this journey much easier to bear. Funeral Services will be held on Friday May 10th at 2:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E 1300 S. A viewing will be held on Thursday May 9th from 7:00-9:00 pm and one hour prior to the funeral.
