RSL sends Attinella on short-term loan
SANDY — Real Salt Lake on Wednesday sent GK Jeff Attinella on a short-term loan to the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers of the second-division North American Soccer League (NASL).
Signed by Real Salt Lake in December 2012, the 24-year-old Attinella has not appeared in any of RSL's first-team matches this year. The third-year pro has seen action in the Reserve League, allowing just one goal in 135 minutes of action across three games.
USU's Barnes to chair hoops committee
INDIANAPOLIS — Scott Barnes, the vice president and director of athletics at Utah State University, has been named chair of the NCAA Division I men's basketball committee for the 2014-15 season it was announced Wednesday. Barnes will first serve as vice chair to Ron Wellman, the director of athletics at Wake Forest University, who will chair the committee for the 2013-14 academic year.
Hawkins breaks high jump record
ARLINGTON, Texas— Utah State women's track and field sophomore heptathlete Chari Hawkins broke the school record in the women's high jump with her winning height of 1.81m (5-11.25) on Wednesday as she leads the heptathlon field with 3,515 points after day one of the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Maverick Stadium.
SLCC softball wins tourney opener
TWIN FALLS, Idaho — The No. 6-ranked SLCC Softball team (45-9) defeated Colorado Northwestern Community College 5-2 in the first round of the Region 18 Tournament won Wednesday. The Bruins won all nine matchups with the Spartans this season.
Also, Bruin sophomore pitcher MaCauley Flint was named a First Team All-Region 18 pitcher and was selected as the Region 18 Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season.
