NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans strung together three consecutive doubles in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and send the Zephyrs to a 3-2 victory over the Salt Lake Bees on Wednesday night.
With one out, Bryan Petersen, who had earlier tripled and scored, doubled into the right field corner off of Salt Lake starter Matt Shoemaker.
Former Bees' infielder Ed Lucas followed with a ground ball double down the left field line to bring home Petersen with the go ahead run. Jordan Brown lined a double off the wall in left center to score Lucas.
Trent Oeltjen led off the seventh with his second home run of the game to cut the Zephyrs' lead to one, but Salt Lake could not move around the tying run.
Shoemaker (2-5) was charged with the loss, as he went seven and one-third innings and allowed just three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Oeltjen had given the Bees a 1-0 lead in the first with a solo homer.
The Bees managed just three hits in the game; Oeltjen's two home runs and a leadoff single by Roberto Lopez in the eighth inning.
With the loss, the Bees set a franchise record with their ninth consecutive road loss. Overall, Salt Lake has dropped five straight games.
