SPANISH FORK — A man is in serious condition after being thrown from his motorcycle in an accident triggered by traffic from a highway rollover.
An apple-laden semitrailer truck tipped after taking a turn too quickly about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The truck, carrying 60,000 pounds of apples, drove too quickly on the curve leading to U.S. 6 off exit 257 from I-15. It tipped on its right side, laying across all three lanes on the state road, closing the off ramp for about three hours.
The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.
The second crash involved three vehicles, including a motorcycle, just before 3 p.m. in traffic that had accumulated from the truck accident.
During an attempted lane change, a passenger car's side bumper hit the back of the motorcycle, propelling the motorcycle into a another car that was stopped ahead, according to police.
The motorcyclist landed on the roadway. He was flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital with a compound fracture to his right leg, abrasions and head injuries, police said. The helmet he was wearing was torn off during the accident. As of Saturday evening he was in stable but serious condition.
More information will be provided as it becomes available.
