Mike Weir had a roller-coaster round Saturday afternoon at the U.S. Open after barely surviving the cut in the morning when 68 players finished their second rounds.
Weir, who lives in Sandy, shot a second-round 76 to finish right on the cut-line at 148 after making two birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey on his final eight holes in the morning. He kept up his inconsistent play in the afternoon, with three more birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey for a 5-over-par 75.
That left him in a tie for 55th place at 223 among the 73 players who made the cut. For Sunday's final round, Weir will tee off at 8:01 MDT with Alistair Presnell.
Earlier Saturday morning, St. George's Jay Don Blake finished up his second round with a triple bogey, a birdie and a bogey on his final seven holes to finish with an 80 and a two-day total of 154. Blake, who was the oldest player in the tournament, missed the cut by six shots.
