Ayako Joyce Fujino1930 ~ 2013Ayako Joyce Fujino, 82, passed away suddenly on June 11, 2013. Our devoted "Ba-chan", mother, aunt, sister and friend is survived by her four children, Gary (Lynn) Fujino, Ron Fujino, Jennifer (Mike) Clark, and Doug Fujino, and her seven grandchildren, Eiji, Ruth, Kimi, Rickie, Tyler, Josh, & Jaden. Joyce is also survived by her brothers Edward (Esther) Matsubuchi, and Gerry Matsubuchi and her sisters-in-law Monica Matsubuchi and Jeannette Matsubuchi, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Don, a former anesthesiologist at Holy Cross Hospital.Born in Cumberland, British Columbia, Canada, Joyce, a registered nurse, grew up in the same neighborhood as her future husband, Don. It wasn't until later in life when they met again as young medical professionals that their friendship blossomed into romance. They were married in 1959. Don and Joyce lived in various parts of Canada before moving to Salt Lake City in 1976. Joyce enjoyed swimming, skiing, bowling and her children's school activities while working as a nurse in assisted living facilities in the Salt Lake Valley. Don and Joyce were happily married for almost 35 years and often took trips to explore the world. After Don's death in 1994, Joyce continued traveling on her own and enjoyed participating in the lives of her seven grandchildren.A public viewing will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, UT, 84106 (801) 466-8687 on Friday, June 21, 2013, from 6 - 8 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, June 22, 2013, starting at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
