Arlene Carter Dredge Grams1958 ~ 2013Arlene Carter Dredge Grams, age 55, passed away June 16, 2013 at her home in Midvale, Utah from cancer. She was born January 23, 1958 in Payson, Utah, to Rex Howell and Erma Mae Boyington Carter. She graduated from Juab High School in Nephi, Utah where she was the student body president and the regional Sterling Scholar in general scholarship. She also attended Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.In 1973, Arlene became a paraplegic in the auto accident that killed her mother. She served as Miss Wheelchair Utah, and was an inspirational speaker throughout the Western United States, especially to youth groups. Arlene married Wilford Jesse Dredge in 1977. They had twin sons, then divorced in 1986. Arlene has been happily married to Conrad David Grams since 1996. Arlene and Conrad were very devoted to each other and were very proud of their blended family. Arlene worked at the YWCA of Salt Lake City for many years as a divorce and healthy relationship teacher, assisting men and women from the Wasatch Front. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church serving in many callings.She enjoyed public speaking, baking, sewing, and spending time with her family. She was also a powerful and influential advocate for others who face significant challenges. She was a teacher to her family, her friends, and her community; and not even the most trying physical restrictions could prevent her from imparting to others her humble wisdom, her deep insights, and her resoundingly optimistic and eternal perspective on life.She is survived by her husband, Conrad David Grams of Midvale, Utah, twin sons, Carter Leon (Rachel) Dredge of North Salt Lake, Utah, and Spencer Nathan (Melissa) Dredge of Centerville, Utah, stepdaughter Danielle Renee Grams of Tampa, Florida, and brother, David Leon (Jenny) Carter of Chicago, Illinois. Surviving grandchildren James, Katie, Luke and Noah Dredge.Funeral Services will be held at the LDS Union Fort 2nd Ward Building located at 7155 South 540 East in Midvale, Utah on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 11am. A viewing will be held Friday evening 6/21/2013 from 6-8 pm at Goff Mortuary, located at 8090 South State Street, in Midvale, Utah and at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Midvale City Cemetery, located at 471 West 6th Avenue in Midvale, Utah. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Red Cross.
