Obituary: PALMER, NANCY

Nancy Buie Palmer1925 ~ 2013Nancy Buie Palmer, 87, of Salt Lake City died peacefully May 31, 2013She was born September 11, 1925 in Rochester, Minnesota to Dr. Louis A. Buie and Zelma Jones Buie. She attended Hollins College, Roanoke, VA. , and graduated from Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. Married Dr. James K. Palmer September 27, 1947 in Rochester, Minnesota; later divorced. Mrs. Palmer was past board member of Kappa Alpha Theta where she made many lifelong friends. She was long active in community affairs as a sustaining member of the Junior League of Salt Lake City, a member of Chapter O PEO, a national women's service organization; a member of the Town Club where she enjoyed her friends and playing bridge. She was also a member of the Salt Lake Swim and Tennis Club. She served as a volunteer at the University Hospital where she was a past board member. She was a past member of the Symphony Guild, Ballet Society, and the Art Guild. Nancy enjoyed an active lifestyle of skiing, tennis and golf along with traveling throughout her life.Survivors are a son, Dr. J. Keith Palmer (Trish Palmer) Santa Rosa, daughters Anne Palmer Tribe, (Royal Tribe III) of Salt Lake City and Tracy Palmer Muckey (Lee Muckey) of Richmond, Virginia and seven grandchildren Travis and Bradley Palmer, Matthew (Estineh) and Tara Tribe Meade (Alex) , Chris, Alex and Greg Muckey; and one brother Dr. Louis A. Buie Jr. , Edina, Minnesota.The family wishes to thank Dr. Beth Hanlon, Debi Poulsen, and the Emeritus staff for their loyal devotion to Nancy during her declining health. Contributions in Nancy's memory can be made to the Carole S. Putnam Memorial Scholarship Fund which provides grants to qualified women who are in need of financial help, living in Utah, and seeking education that is not part of a degree program at a Utah educational facility.
