BYU soccer: Cougar men’s soccer travels to Southern California to battle two division rivals

PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s soccer anticipates two away wins this weekend as it travels to California.

The Cougars will compete against the Southern California Seahorses in back-to-back games after a 1–0 win last match. In his season debut, incoming freshman Blake Frischknecht scored the winning goal in the final minutes of the game. The Cougars hope to repeat last game’s results on Thursday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m. in La Mirada, Calif.

On Saturday, the Cougars will compete in their second game of the week against the LA Misioneros. Earlier in the season, BYU battled to a 0–1 loss against the Misioneros when Brian Behrand scored in the stoppage time. BYU hopes to overcome the rivalry in Saturday’s game in Cerritos, Calif.

These are must-win games for many reasons,” forward Jonathan Junca said. “In the game against the LA Misioneros, we lost it in the final minutes, but we did the exact opposite against the Seahorses. We learned to better trust our coach, believe in ourselves and play with heart. We are going to keep building, just like we’ve done these last three years.”

BYU maintains a 2–5–1 record after completing an undefeated 5–0 fall preseason.
