SALT LAKE CITY — One man was shot while chasing a man police say robbed a restaurant Saturday in the Glendale neighborhood.
Officers responded to the call of a shooting and armed robbery around 8:35 p.m. at a restaurant near 1320 S. Swaner Road (2200 West), according to Salt Lake City Police Lt. Scott White.
A man in his early 20s entered the restaurant and told an employee to give him money, police said. After getting an undisclosed amount of cash, the man fled. An employee recruited two other people who had just driven up in front of the restaurant, and the three chased the man on foot, White said.
At one point, the man turned and fired at least one shot at the pursuers, Salt Lake Police Lt. Josh Scharman said. One of the pursuers was shot in the leg. He was taken to a local hospital for examination in stable condition.
Those involved in the chase may not have known that the man was armed, police said.
"It sounds like the person who was leading the foot chase was outside while the armed robbery happened inside, so he may not have had all the information," Scharman said.
The alleged robber was described as Hispanic, in his early 20s, wearing a white jersey-style shirt with black lettering, according to police.
Police were still looking for the man Sunday. He was last seen heading south from the scene on foot.
