Heber area sportsmen raise money for wildlife conservation

SALT LAKE CITY — An annual banquet that doubles as a community fundraiser drew more than 200 people out in the Heber/Kamas area to support wildlife conservation efforts.

Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife's local chapter in the Heber/Kamas Chapter said it will put 100 percent of the more than $35,000 raised toward regional projects that enhance statewide conservation efforts.

In the past, the group spent $30,000 to buy rooster pheasants for season-long hunting for youth and to help with translocation efforts of deer in central Utah.

The sportsmen group paid for the deer transplant and will help the state Division of Wildlife Resources and BYU in monitoring its success.
