Janet Sue Sorensen Hawkins1945~2013Bountiful, UTJanet Sue Sorensen Hawkins graduated to Paradise with honors on June 2, 2013, at her home in Bountiful, succumbing to leukemia and breast cancer. Janet was born to Howard Lonsdale Sorensen and Dorothy Simons Sorensen on September 21, 1945, in Alhambra, California, the youngest of four daughters. Janet graduated from BYU in CDFR and Elementary Education, where she met her sweetheart, Denis Russell Hawkins. They were married in the Los Angeles Temple on June 28, 1968. Janet's main focus in life was to be an accomplished wife, mother, and homemaker, at which she was very successful. She taught Kindergarten for several years in Provo before her three daughters came along. After they were raised she was a part-time aide in elementary schools in Sacramento, California, and the Davis School District in Utah for 17 years, working mostly with disabled children. Janet was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in a variety of callings ranging from Relief Society President to Nursery Leader. She especially loved serving with the youth and children of the Church and community. Special thanks are due to the wonderful staff at the LDS Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic, who worked lovingly with her for almost a year, and to the compassionate members of her Woodland Hills Ward.
