WEST JORDAN — Police evacuated three homes Saturday evening after finding a homemade explosive device in one home.

Officers were called to 9166 S. Targhee Drive (4160 West) on a keep the peace call, West Jordan police officer Ian Adams said. A homeowner who had evicted the renters of his home called for assistance.

“While officers were inside the house with the homeowners they found a small amount of drugs, some drug paraphernalia and some sort of homemade explosive device,” Adams said.

The state bomb task force responded and police evacuated three of the neighboring homes and shut off pedestrian and vehicle access to the street “out of an abundance of caution.”

Once a warrant was obtained, the bomb squad was able to use their robot to retrieve the device. It was then disrupted outside of the home.

Adams said police are working with the homeowner to identify who had been in the house.

“The investigation is ongoing,” he said.
