Dan Andersen1927 ~ 2013Dan was born January 13, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the oldest child of Daniel and Mildred Andersen. He graduated from West High School and served as student body president. Graduation was on Friday and the very next day he was inducted into the Army with the assignment in the Panama Canal Zone. Served a mission to Denmark. He attended BYU, received B.S. Degree in Education from the University of Utah, M.A. in Education from USC and a PhD in Education from University of Wisconsin. He was faculty at the University of Wisconsin. He worked overseas in Nigeria and Ethiopia. He finished his professional career with the Church Education System, first at Church College of Hawaii, then as President of BYU-Hawaii, then finished as Dean of the College of Education at BYU-Provo. He had multiple international and national consulting assignments. He served mission calls to Denmark, Western Samoa and New York. Other service included serving in a stake presidency, bishopric, stake high council, branch president, teacher and temple sealer.His passions included: BYU sports (he said his blood ran Blue); playing the piano, accompanying Lina and Sabra, and playing duets with Gloria; traveling; reading; and his family.Dan was blessed with three lovely wives. He was sealed (6/15/1952) to his first wife Lina Hinckley Andersen, who passed away in 1987. He married Sabra Whittle Andersen for time (2/12/1989), who passed away in 2003. He is survived by his current wife, Gloria Driggs Andersen, married for time (4/22/2006).Sons with Lina: David C. Andersen (Jill) Turlock, CA: Stephen H. Andersen (Teresa), Scottsdale, AZ. Sons with Sabra: ElRey Lynn Peterson (deceased) (Rosalin), Vaughn Peterson (Margaret), Thayne Peterson (Christine); daughters with Sabra: Klyss Smith (Steven), Valynn Baum (Gregery), Jenae Madsen (Tim); all of Provo-Orem. Sons with Gloria: Jerry West, Hickory, NC, Jonathan West (Heidi), Herriman, UT; daughters with Gloria: Jennifer West Mitchell (Michael), Gorham, ME, Julie West Burton (Marcus), Pleasant Grove, UT and Janelle West Olivas (Lance), Nashville, TN.And 52 grandchildren, 11 spouses and 32 great-grandchildren.Viewing will be held Sunday, August 25, 2013 from 6-8pm at Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home, 495 S. State St, Orem, UT, and 9:30-10:30 am, Monday, August 26, before the 11:00 am funeral service at the LDS chapel, 2445 N. Timpview Dr (650 E), Provo, UT.
