As reported in the Deseret News and again in the Salt Lake Tribune, Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, hasn't held a single town hall meeting since 2007. Utah's other members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including Jason Chaffetz, Rob Bishop and Chris Stewart, have all scheduled town hall meetings during the August recess, but Rep. Matheson is nowhere to be found. Perhaps he's somewhere in D.C., but without a doubt he's not taking questions from constituents here in Utah.

Given that I have immigrant family members, I would like to know how Rep. Matheson feels about immigration reform. Ever since the Wall Street Journal reported that the National Security Agency was eavesdropping on email and text communications in Salt Lake before the 2002 Olympics, I've wanted to ask Rep. Matheson what he thinks about our rights to personal privacy. U.S. unemployment has ticked up to 7.7 percent. Fortunately, I have a job, but many of my friends and neighbors don't, so I'd like to know what Rep. Matheson's plans are to help them out. If by chance you do see my congressman, please ask him to meet his constituents by scheduling a town hall meeting so that I and others can ask him questions.
