SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men’s soccer team remains at home this weekend to play host to the 2013 Westminster Labor Day Classic. The Griffins will play three games during the event, and there will be a total of seven games played at Dumke Field over the four days.
Westminster begins the event Friday against Bellevue (Neb.) at 4 p.m., and then will then take a day off before a Sunday contest with Midland (Neb.) at 1:30 p.m. The Griffins close out the weekend against No. 4 MidAmerican Nazarene (Kan.) on Monday at noon.
Every game of the Labor Day Classic will be streamed live on Griffins TV and have live stats available. Links for all of these live features are available on Westminster's athletic website.
The Griffins started the year with back-to-back home victories over No. 16 Jamestown (N.D.) and The Master’s (Calif.). This is the second straight year the team has started 2-0 after not accomplishing that feat since 2008 prior to last season. The win over Jamestown gave the Griffins a second straight victory over ranked opponents dating back to last season.
The Griffins took 23 shots in the first two games and put 10 of those on goal. They were also the recipient of seven corner kicks and suffered 21 fouls. The opposition took just eight shots in the two contests with five of them on frame. Westminster allowed five corner kicks and committed 21 fouls.
