Obituary: BARTON, HARRIETT

Harriett West Barton 1927 - 2013Harriett "Hattie" West Barton died peacefully in her sleep on 24 August 2013. Hattie was born 22 June 1927 to Eleroy and Lois Hayes West in Pleasant Grove, UT. She graduated from Pleasant Grove High School.Mom met the love of her life while working at the soda fountain prior to dad departing for WWII. After four long years of letters back and forth, she married John P. Barton on 7 September 1946 in Pleasant Grove, UT. Their vows were later solemnized in the SLC Temple on 13 June 1966. They spent 57 years together prior to John's death 31 March 2004. Together they were blessed with 4 children John (Carla), Kerry (Linda), Barbara (Sam) Hill and Patrick (Sue) Barton.Hattie lived most of her life in Fruit Heights, UT where she enjoyed many good friends and activities. She was a medical receptionist for Kaysville Medical Center and sang with the Jay Welch Chorale and several community choirs. Music was always a big part of her life. She served in many church callings and was currently serving as the ward relief society chorister in the St. George Slick Rock Ward. Hattie moved to St. George in 2009 to be closer to her daughter, Barbara Hill, and be a full time snowbird. Mom is survived by her four children, twelve grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, one brother Eleroy (Beth) West and two sisters Mary Gordon and Barbara (Gary) Carlson. She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister.Funeral services will be Saturday 31 August at 11:00 am at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) Sandy, Utah.
