SALT LAKE CITY — The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is hosting an Out of the Darkness walk on Sept. 14 at Sugarhouse Park.

The event will be from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Online registration closes at noon the Friday before the walk. But anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk. Also, walk donations are accepted through Dec. 31.

There will be a silent auction, prize drawings and live music after the walk. Participants are encouraged to bring a photo of your loved one for our memory tables. There also will be food vendors, face painting and a pet booth.

Community resources will be provided by National Association of Mental Illness-Utah, Salt Lake Behavioral Health, Valley Mental Health, UNI Mobile Crisis, and the Salt Lake Veterans Administration.

The Utah chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention was started by Taryn Aiken and Mandy Aiken Draney, who lost their father to suicide in 2002, to raise awareness and help efforts to prevent suicide.
