CHICAGO – The Westminster College women’s soccer team opened its two-game road trip to Illinois with a 1-0 loss at Saint Xavier on Saturday afternoon at Deaton Field. The start of the game was delayed by nearly two hours due to lightning in the area.

Westminster (1-2) controlled the game for much of the first half and finished the first 45 minutes with an 8-2 advantage in shots. The Griffins put five of those chances on net but were denied as the game hit halftime scoreless. St. Xavier (1-0-1) took the 1-0 lead early in the second half when Morgan Graves put the ball away from a free kick by Monica Chavolla in the 50th minute.

The Griffins finished the game with 12 shot attempts to just five by the Cougars. All nine of Westminster’s shots on goal were turned away by St. Xavier keeper Alex Perry.

Lexi Tucker led the Griffin attack with three shot attempts and two on goal. Carissa Cooper and Heidi Lorschider also got two shots on target. Jamie Wilkinson made one save but took the loss in goal.
