Marie Olson Sorenson1924 ~ 2013Marie Olson Sorenson, age 89, died at home in the arms of her family on August 27th, 2013 in West Jordan, Utah. She was born April 2, 1924 in Richmond, Utah to Alma Aquilla and Huldah Stoddard Olson. She married Wendell Howell Sorenson on November 28th, 1946 in Richmond, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Marie graduated from North Cache High School in May 1940 where she was a member of the commercial club and school band. She also attended Brigham Young University. Marie was a loving, devoted and tireless wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend whose greatest satisfaction was the success of her family. She was an avid reader with a lifelong love of learning. Marie also enjoyed music, theatre, and sports, and took particular pleasure in watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in these pursuits. After her semi-retirement from child-rearing, she became a seasoned traveler and visited many parts of the world. She is survived by her brother, John C. Olson; her sons and daughters, Nile (Zora) Sorenson, Max (Karin) Sorenson, Von (Sheri) Sorenson, Barbara (Roger) Day, Robert (Julie) Sorenson, Carl (Karlann) Sorenson, Rex (Heidi) Sorenson, Norman (Brenda) Sorenson, Jane Sorenson, Hal (Connie) Sorenson, Seth Sorenson; her stepdaughter, Nadene (Richard) Oliver; her 36 grandchildren; and her 60 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers (Max and Gordon Olson), stepson Stephen (Kathy) Sorenson, grandson Blaine Sorenson, and great-granddaughters Shalene Carter and Kennedy Sorenson. A viewing will be held September 1st, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan. A viewing will also be held on September 2nd, 2013 at 9:30 am, followed by funeral services at 11:00 am at the West Jordan 29th Ward Chapel, 6695 South 2200 West, West Jordan. Interment will be at Redwood Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Marie suggested donations be made to the Perpetual Education Fund or Humanitarian Fund of the LDS Church, or the charity of your choice.
