SALT LAKE CITY — Scores of local artists will display their talents at the fifth annual Craft Lake City “do-it-yourself” festival. The two-day event will be held on Friday, Aug. 9 from 5 to 10 p.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 10 from noon to 10 p.m. at the Gallivan Center in downtown Salt Lake City.
Organized by Craft Lake City — a Utah nonprofit — the event will feature more than 200 local vendors and artisans specializing in handmade art in a variety of mediums, including silk-screened posters, progressive crafts, reconstructed clothing, jewelry and letter-pressed books among others modes. The festival will also include craft foods and vintage vendors, along with more than 50 local performers and musicians on two stages.
For the second year, the festival will showcase DIY engineers in the event’s Science & Technology building. Exhibitors will highlight creations programmed through electronic tools and computers. The facility will also host the inaugural Sumo Bot Competition on Saturday, in which DIY engineers and students will pit mini robots against each other in a ring.
Craft Lake City’s mission is to educate, promote and inspire local artisans while elevating the creative culture of the Utah arts community through science, technology and art, explained event executive director Angela Brown.
The event is free and open to the public. Visit www.craftlakecity.com for more information.
