SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah House committee investigating embattled Attorney General John Swallow will hold its first meeting Tuesday.

The nine-member panel — five Republicans, four Democrats — is expected to get organized, review its investigative powers and discuss potential costs.

Legal counsel for the committee is scheduled to be chosen Friday. Ten out-of-state law firms are being interviewed for the job. The committee also intends to hire investigators.

House Speaker Becky Lockhart, R-Provo, appointed the committee last month to gather facts about the allegations leveled at Swallow, who is the subject of federal, state and county investigations. The panel will report its findings to the House, which could consider impeachment proceedings.
