She was born June 30, 1923 in Pontypool, Wales, Great Britain, the 7th of 10 children to Thomas Jenkins Howells and Rosina Douglas. She served as a clerk in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force for Great Britain in London during World War II, with her office below ground, and survived (some of her coworkers did not) the German bombings. She immigrated to the United States on June 2, 1949 with $30 in her purse, and was proud to become a U.S. citizen on November 20, 1952. She was an accomplished seamstress, and made temple and burial clothes for many years as a service to the church and others. She also made some of the best chocolates and gave them as gifts to family and friends every Christmas time. Up until a couple years ago, she was an avid walker and you had to walk fast to keep up with her, as some of her "mall friends" could attest.Preceded in death by her husband, Norval; daughter, Jeanine; parents, Thomas and Rosina; brothers, Tom, Handel and Cecil; and sisters, Gladys, Maggie, Olwyn and Mavis. She is survived by her 4 children; sisters, Beryl Hayes of Cwmbran, Wales and Sheila (Grant) Child of Vernon, UT; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; 5 sisters-in-law; and 2 brothers-in-law and their wives.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 10, 2013, in the Greenoaks LDS Ward building, 932 W. Greenoaks Drive (5900 S.) Murray, UT. A viewing will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State, Murray, and 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Elysian Burial Gardens Cemetery. Many thanks to the Parkview Ward family (especially Ruthann Gibbs) who watched over her the last 6 years, and to the Intermountain Hospice team and Beehive Homes for their kindness and help caring for mom the last few months and weeks.
