Lynn Murdock Dudley1955 ~ 2013Lynn Murdock Dudley was born May 15, 1955 to Bill and Joyce Dudley. The oldest of four boys, Lynn was an avid outdoorsman and scholar. He spent much of his free time big game hunting on his family ranch, chasing birds with his dogs, and fly fishing around the world. A marathon runner, a road biker, skier and world traveler he still found time to become a renown academic in soil chemistry working with international agencies and governments in India and Israel.Lynn finished his bachelor's and master's degrees from Utah State University and then received his PhD from Washington State University in Soil Chemistry. He spent most of his professional career at Utah State University where he became one of the youngest tenured professors at the age of 30. He had a rich professional life, becoming President of the American Association for the Advancement of Science Pacific Division and the President of the faculty senate at USU. Besides authoring 48+ significant publications Lynn became the first department chair of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science at Florida State University.With all he achieved professionally Lynn's proudest accomplishments were his two children, Michael (27) and Stacia (22) Dudley. A devoted father he never missed a dance recital, sporting event, graduation and acted as scout master for Logan Utah's troop one for many years. His greatest passion in life was his wife of 33 years, Caryn Beck-Dudley whom he met at Utah State University and asked to marry her three dates later.He is survived by his wife, two children, brothers: Wayne (Becki), Ken (Vickie), Mark (Elsa), and step siblings: Reed (Connie) Bailey, Rick (Judy) Bailey, Marilyn (Jeff) Stove; mother, Joyce Bailey; in-laws, Malcolm and Sharon Beck; brothers-in-law: Randy (Chari), Gary (Annemargret); numerous nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.A Celebrations of Lynn's Life will be held Saturday, September 14, 2013 11:00 AM at Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home, 288 North Main Street, Heber City, Utah. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation be made to the Florida State Foundation ONE.Fsu.Edu EOAS General Development Fund in Lynn's Honor.
