KUNA, Idaho - The Utah Valley University women's golf team closed out the Bronco Fall Invitational on Tuesday with a ninth-place finish. The 54-hole tournament was hosted by Boise State at the Falcon Crest Golf Club in Kuna, Idaho.

The Wolverines, who entered the final day of the tournament in ninth place, maintained their finish as they shot 37-over par in the final round. For the three rounds, UVU combined for a final tally of +105 with scores of 322, 322 and 325.

"It was a rough tournament for our team," head coach Sue Nyhus said. "We've been struggling a bit as of late but we'll try to regroup and get back on track."

Junior Brooke Whittaker led the Utah Valley team scorers on the day and at the tournament. Her final round of 79 (+7) helped her finish in a tie for 26th at 17-over par. Sophomore Kalea Heu, who was competing as an individual at the invitational, posted UVU's next best finish at 23-over. Her final round of 9-over 81 helped her tie for 39th overall.

Juniors Hannah Herman and Lynn-Marié Nagel were the Wolverines' next best finishers as they posted respective final tallies of +25 and +29. Herman's 241 was good enough for a tie of 42nd place while Nagel's 245 pitted her in 50th.

Redshirt freshman Kimberly Nyhus posted the best final round for any UVU golfer Tuesday as the individual shot a 4-over 76 to help her finish the tournament at +30. During Nyhus' final round she recorded one birdie, 12 pars and five bogeys.

"All three of our individuals had one good round apiece," Nyhus said. "Monica Yeates shot a 77 in the first round, Kalea had a 73 in the second round and Kim had a 76 today so we had a couple of bright moments."

Santa Clara won the tournament with 11-over par, and SCU's Kaci McCartan walked away as the individual winner at 1-under. Host Boise State took second at +18 while Portland State finished third with 23-over.

UVU will now have the next couple weeks off to prepare for New Mexico State's Price's Give `Em Five Classic that will take place Oct. 7-9 at the NMSU Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M.

"As we move forward we'll begin preparing for New Mexico State," Nyhus said. "We're working toward more consistency and learning how to play the game of golf rather than just hit balls."
