GREAT SALT LAKE MARINA STATE PARK — Rowland Hall’s sophomore class was armed with 600 pieces of cardboard, lots of glue, and rolls of duct tape at the Great Salt Lake Marina to experiment with the physical principles of buoyancy.

Teams of four students each, with no prior knowledge of the project and no access to digital technology, were tasked with setting sail on the Great Salt Lake with only the materials they’ve been provided that day. The vessels had to be capable of carrying two students who will paddle from one dock to the other.
