OREM — Utah Valley University's men's and women's cross-country teams will race at the Montana State Invitational on Saturday morning at Bridger Creek Golf Course in Bozeman, Mont.
The men will run an 8K at 9 a.m., with the women slated for a 6K at 9:45 a.m. Over the past seasons the Wolverines have raced at Montana State multiple times, competing last during the 2011 season with both teams coming in fourth.
For the Wolverines, who took second at last week's UVU Invitational, it will be the longest race of the young season for the men and women.
"This is a nice time to get the increase. It's a slow progression and build up, and the men will eventually move to a 10K," head coach Scott Houle said. "Some kids will run better at the longer distance so we may see some changes at the top."
At last week's UVU Invite, Brooke Hodson-Davies finished third in the women's race with Trac Norris taking the same spot on the men's side. Norris was named the WAC Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after his career-best finish and second time in the top four this season.
"Individually everyone is running about where I thought they would at this point, so I'm pleased with how things are going," Houle said.
The Wolverine men are ranked eighth in the Mountain Region in the latest USTFCCCA poll while the women are ranked 10th. After Saturday's race, UVU will have next week off before competing at Southern Utah in the Color Country Invitational on Oct. 4.
