PROVO — BYU received some good news Sunday morning — running back Jamaal Williams, who suffered an injury during Saturday night's loss to Utah, has been released from the hospital.
Williams suffered a concussion and severe stinger in the third quarter and was carted off the field and transported to the hospital. The sophomore underwent imaging and other testing to rule out a spine-related injury. He was alert and his condition continued to improve during the tests. Williams was kept in the hospital overnight for observation.
According to BYU officials, "the status for his return will be based on day-to-day progression and continued improvement throughout the week."
BYU hosts Middle Tennessee on Friday night (7 p.m. MDT, ESPNU).
Against Utah, Williams gained 52 yards on 13 carries. He ranks No. 10 nationally in rushing, averaging 126 yards per game.
