Lynette Brockbank Homewood1960 ~ 2013Lynette Brockbank Homewood, 53, committed her soul to doing the Lord's work the morning of September 23rd, 2013 at her home in Sandy, Utah after a year of courageously battling an extremely rare form of cancer. Early on Lynette was given the nickname, "Betty," by her younger brother and has been known as Betty to her family and close friends ever since. Lynette was born on July 21, 1960 to Bruce and Leora Brockbank in Great Falls, Montana, while her Dad was serving in the Air Force at Malmstrom Air Force Base. A few years later her family moved to Holladay, Utah, where she grew up.Lynette attended Cottonwood Elementary, Olympus Jr. and Olympus High School, where she graduated in 1978. Her senior year Lynette was selected by Rotary International to serve as an exchange student in Weilerswist, Germany. She had many amazing experiences and toured all through Germany and Austria. Her host family, Gerhard and Ellen Heidt and their six children truly became a second family to Lynette and they have enjoyed a life-long relationship, with many family visits to and from Germany and Utah Lynette has always had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ and she lived her life each day as a faithful disciple. She received a mission call the same day as her brother and served in the Vancouver, British Columbia Mission from 1981-83. She served in relief society and primary presidencies, but spent most of her Church service with the young women, serving in several presidencies and as president for many years. She found much joy in serving others and touched the lives of many. Lynette was the favorite aunt and had many parties, sleep-overs and loved to tend her many nieces and nephews. Lynette attended Brigham Young University and the University of Utah where she graduated with a bachelors and masters degree in education. She maintained a scholarship the last two years at the U of U. During that time she met many terrific roommates and lifelong friends. Lynette taught school for 17 years at Hunter and Brookwood Elementary Schools and also worked as a technology specialist for Granite School District. Lynette was the kind of teacher that every parent wanted for their children. She was committed and devoted to all of her many, many students. She especially loved teaching her students about Shakespeare (yes, her 5th and 6th graders!) by "producing" a class play each year. Her students loved "The Brock Shop" where they could buy candy and other goods with their "Brock Buck" currency (that had Lynette's picture on it) that they earned in her class.Lynette's life turned into a fairy tale on March 25, 2000, when she married the "Light of her Life" and best friend, Kent Homewood, in the Salt Lake Temple. With that marriage, she became an instant mother to Jamie and Samantha, whom she loved as her own and cared for ever since. She and Kent were also blessed with their darling angel Heather, who has also brought them much joy. Lynette loved spending time with her family and was so proud of her children. She, Kent and the kids especially loved traveling, with some of their favorite destinations being St. George, Bear Lake, Hawaii and Southern California.Lynette is survived by her husband Kent and children, Jamie, Samantha and Heather; parents, Bruce and Leora Brockbank; Kent's mother, Gloria Gibbs (Grant, deceased); Kent's father Kent Homewood (Gina); siblings: Loralei Holt (Russ), Lisa Sommerfeldt (Scott), Joe Brockbank, Dean Brockbank (Stephanie); Lenice Paulsen (Erik); brother-in-law Craig Homewood (Sharon); and many nieces and nephews. We love you Betty!!!
