LeRoy Russell Ray"Sonny"LeRoy Russell (Sonny) Ray passed away at St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City on September 21, 2013, of congestive heart failure. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. Sonny was born on November 21, 1941 in Murray, Utah to Russell and Elaine Alldredge Ray.Sonny is survived by Barbara, his wife of 52 years. They were married on March 4, 1961 in Salt Lake City. He is also survived by his son, Russell Ray; daughters, Jamie, Sandy (Dennis) Tapp, and Jennifer (Anna) Ray; grandsons, Colby, Aaron and Hunter Tapp; and brother, Rodney Ray and family. Sonny is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Roylance.Sonny owned "Sonny's Drywall" and was in business for over thirty years. He worked on many commercial and housing projects throughout the western states.Sonny and Barbara loved to travel all over the country and to Canada, Mexico, and parts of Europe. He also spent much of his time working with his family on special projects at their homes.Sonny moved to Scipio, Utah in 2005, where he and Barbara worked together to restore a historic pioneer home. He raised many farm animals over the years and loved to ride his 4-wheeler in the mountains and desert. Sonny was a master fisherman and spent many precious hours on the Provo River. He was an avid BYU fan, never missing a basketball or football game.Our special thanks to neighbor and friend Gerald Martin of Scipio, who helped keep things going on the farm throughout the last year of Sonny's illness. Also thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at St. Mark's Hospital for their special care over the last few months.Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Midvale, where there will be viewings Wednesday 6-8 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to services. Sonny will be interred at Sandy City Cemetery. www.goffmortuary.com
