BOULDER, Colo. — The Westminster College cross-country teams spent Saturday morning at the Rocky Mountain Shootout hosted by the University of Colorado. The men’s 8K race and the women’s 5.8K race took place at the Buffalo Ranch Cross Country Course on CU’s South Campus.
Oliver Lange of the Westminster men’s team was the top finishing NAIA entrant in the field after completing the tough, muddy course with a time of 27:32. He finished 29th overall in the field of 166 entrants. Jef Marsicola placed 125th with his time of 30:47 with Brendan Cassidy going 32:35 to finish 149th.
On the women’s side, the Griffins placed fourth out of seven in the non-NCAA Division I teams, and they were the top placing team from the NAIA. Westminster scored 115 points and posted just a 1:17 gap from runners one through five.
Erin Kibler was the top placing Griffin in the women’s race. She completed the course with a time of 25:25 to finish 58th in the field of 115. Payton Schiff finished 61st after posting a time of 25:37, while Rebecca Goldstein was 74th with her time of 26:10. Jana Peale (26:26) and Bailee Kern (26:42) finished 77th and 82nd, respectively, to record the five scores for the Griffins. Zoey Freebairn placed 86th after posting a time of 26:53.
Westminster is back in action Friday when it travels to Cedar City, Utah, for the Color Country Invitational hosted by Southern Utah University.
