Lois Ottley Flegal1918 ~ 2014Our darling 96 year-old mother and grandmother, Lois Charlotte Ottley Flegal, lovingly known as Grandma Popcorn, slipped peacefully away in the morning of January 22, 2014. She was born to Frederick Joseph Ottley and Lydia Ethal Brown January 13, 1918 in Salt Lake City. After graduating from South High School in 1936, she moved to San Diego where she graduated from Beauty School. After meeting and falling in love with David Daniel Flegal, they were married August 3, 1937 in Salt Lake City, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.Mother's gift was love. With a listening ear and arms wide open, she "adopted" everyone into her ever-widening circle. Hers was a life of service and charitable acts and if you were lucky enough to know her, you were undoubtedly a recipient of her tender care. Her homemaking skills were many as evidenced by her delicious meals, beautiful quilts, and flourishing rose garden, but her greatest love was her family. In spite of having 5 children, 29 grandchildren, 87 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, she knew every one by name and never missed a birthday. We could not leave her home without hearing, "What can I give you that's good?" Ice Cream, popcorn, home-canned grape juice and her fabulous peanut brittle were our favorites. Grandma loved a good party and frequently welcomed her vast posterity and loved ones to her home and yard on the banks of Millcreek. Many are the memories that were made.We are comforted by knowing that families are forever and we will be together again in the eternities. Mother and Dad started their great legacy as faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have shown us the path to achieve Eternal Life in the presence of Our Heavenly Father. How grateful we are for their wonderful examples and never-ending love. We love and miss you both. Last tag, Grandma!Survivors are her children, Jean (Wayne) Brimley, Edward (Heidi) Flegal, Douglas (Teresa) Flegal, Rebecca (Roark) Stratton, all of Salt Lake City, and Linda Larson Flegal (Richard) Prince, of LaVerkin, Utah. Preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, son Stephen Flegal and grandson David Flegal. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014, 12:00 Noon at the Valley View Fourth Ward, 2125 East Evergreen Avenue (3435 South). Friends may call at the church Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm and from 10:30-11:30 am Saturday prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the LDS Church missionary fund or humanitarian fund. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
