The Utah Symphony is set to perform with guest pianist Conrad Tao Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. at Abravanel Hall.
Conducted by Thierry Fischer, the performance will include Qigang Chen’s "Wu Xing," Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C major and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor.
Tao was referred to as a teen piano prodigy in a previous Deseret News article because of his success beginning at a young age. According to a news release, he made his concerto debut at the age of 8, has since performed throughout the world with numerous symphonies and now attends the Columbia University/Juilliard School joint degree program.
The Jan. 31 performance corresponds with the Chinese New Year and signals the opening of the Utah Symphony and Utah Opera cultural festival. The theme of this year’s festival is “Silk and Spices.” Various activities will be held as part of the celebration through the coming months.
