The Utah Grizzlies (17-16-3-4) defeated the Bakersfield Condors, 2-1, in a shootout Saturday night at Maverik Center before 6,743 fans for the team’s annual Guns N’ Hoses Night.
With the win, the Grizzlies tied an all-time team record by going unbeaten in 10-straight home games at 7-0-1-2.
With a 10-2-2-2 record since going into Christmas at 7-14-1-2, the Grizzlies are above .500 for the first time since they were 1-0 on Oct. 18.
Utah goaltender Aaron Dell stopped 30 of 31 shots and all three in the shootout to improve to 13-3-0-1.
Mathieu Aubin, Jamie MacQueen and Vinny Scarsella all scored for Utah in the shootout as the Grizzlies buried three of four shots, and Scarsella ended the game with his shootout goal in round four as Dell made his stops.
Utah took a 1-0 lead with 22 seconds left in the first period as MacQueen navigated up ice and found Kris Hogg in the circle for his eighth goal of the year. The 1-0 lead held until the third period when Bakersfield leading scorer Joel Broda tied things up on his 19th goal of the year.
Dell made two huge saves as the Condors came in hard in the final seconds of regulation. The Grizzlies goaltender also stopped six shots in overtime as the Condors clanged two posts in the process as well.
The Grizzlies wrap up their five-game home stand Wednesday at 7 p.m. with Las Vegas.
