MURRAY — The 2014 version of "Phantom of the Opera: I've Grown Accustomed to Your Face" is actually the "best of the last 25 years" show.

Director Scott Holman said it's a classic story made fresh by updated comic material and new elements drawn from the headlines of the day.

"It will feel fresh. We're putting together all of the best elements of each previous show," Holman said. "The result is hilarious."

Holman said it's the perfect show to kick off the new year as it is a favorite of Desert Star Playhouse audiences and cast members.

He said Trenton James Krummenacher and Dan Larringa both make superb phantoms, and Desert Star Playhouse regulars Matt O'Malley and Tyrus Williams (as Sorelli), Matt Kohler and Corey Brandenburger (as the theater manager) and Liz Christensen and Jennifer Aguirre (as Christine) provide plenty of laughs in the familiar story twisted sideways.

Ed Farnsworth, Danny Eggers and Tyrell Clemment take turns playing the part of Raoul.

Alexis Owen and Brittney Nielson play Madame Giry.

Brooklynn Pulver Kohler and Laurel Warr play Madame Carlotta.

"We have, collectively, a great cast," Holman said. "This 'Phantom' is all about laugh-out-loud comedy."

Broadway olios will follow the show.
