The third-ranked Westminster College women’s basketball team extended its winning straight to eight consecutive games with a 70-45 win at Dickinson State on Thursday evening in Frontier Conference action.

Behind three players in double figures, the Griffins moved to 15-2 overall this season and 9-0 in Frontier action. They maintain a one-game lead over Lewis-Clark State for the conference lead. Dickinson State falls to 13-11 and 3-6 with the loss.

Kelsi Wells led the Griffins on Thursday, finishing with a season-high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. She made three of her five attempts from beyond the arc while also grabbing seven rebounds and notching three assists. Alli Winters continued her torrid 3-point shooting by making 5-of-8 from three to finish with 15 points. Tia Pappas added 12 points with Alli Blake recording six assists.

The Griffins shot 44 percent from the floor with 16 assists on 22 made field goals. They went 12-of-22 from beyond the arc to help overcome 16 turnovers and a 32-14 deficit in points in the paint. Westminster used 23 steals to help turn DSU over 27 times, and it scored 26 points from those opportunities.

Keshawnee Alley led the Blue Hawks with 16 points and seven rebounds. Jess Bygate added 10 points in defeat.

Westminster will now take a day off before playing at Rocky Mountain on Saturday. The action from the Fortin Center is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. MST tip.
