Raymond Neal McMillan1927 ~ 2014Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Raymond Neal McMillan, age 86, returned home to his earthly and heavenly parents on Wednesday, January 1, 2014. He was born on December 4, 1927 in Murray, Utah to Michael Elmo McMillan and Hannah Mary Johnson. After losing his mother at age 2, his father married Travis Rose Haws who loved and raised him as her own. He lived in Murray for most of his life. He attended Liberty Elementary and Murray High School where he participated in many activities including a state championship basketball team. He served a faithful mission in the Northwestern States Mission and returned to be married and sealed for time and all eternity to his sweetheart Merilyn Hortin in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 22, 1949. Ray attended the University of Utah in business studies and was an accomplished accountant and office manager. He worked in the grocery and dairy business for over 35 years, with 30 years at Winder Dairy. Wherever he worked he brought a wonderful spirit of love and was respected by his coworkers for his kindness, dedication, and integrity. His joy in life was his family and service to his Heavenly Father. He was a devoted husband and a wonderful father and grandfather always providing loving care and support. He was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including Bishop, High Counselor, High Priest Group Leader, Elders Quorum President, and Young Men's President. Also, Ray loved teaching his wonderful lessons in Sunday School, High Priests, and Young Single Adults. He fulfilled a church service mission with his wife at the LDS Conference Center and enjoyed being an ordinance worker at the Jordan River Temple. Ray was loved by many for his loving service and gentle manner. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Melvin, Arden, Don, sister Pat, and stillborn daughter. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years and four children; Susan (Gerald) Capps, Barbara (Kirt) Beckstrom, Lori (Van) Terry, and David (Jackie) McMillan; 16 beautiful grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four brothers; Deloy (Colleen) McMillan, Kaye (Thelma) McMillan, Reed McMillan, and Rick (Lisa) McMillan. A viewing will be held at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Pkwy (10600 South) in South Jordan, Utah 84095 on Sunday, January 5 from 5:00 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 6 at 12:00 noon at the Murray Little Cottonwood Stake Center, 6180 South Glenoaks Street in Murray, Utah 84107. Friends and family may also visit from 10:30 to 11:30 am prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at the Murray City Cemetery.
