Bettie (Elizabeth Nellie) Whitmore LessigMay 10, 1924-January 2, 2014Bettie Lessig, wife, loving mother, grandmother, and friend passed away in her Salt Lake City home, January 2, 2014 from conditions related to advanced age. She was born in Eureka, Utah to Emma and Onel (Tex) Whitmore. Bettie graduated from Payson High School in 1942 She married Garold Lessig August 4, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They spent 62 years together before his death in February 2007. She enjoyed quilting, traveling, and numerous crafts that required the skill of her hands. She was a faithful member of the L.D.S. Church and served in numerous callings, her favorite was working in the S.L.C. Temple laundry for many years.. Bettie worked in several different jobs, and retired from the University of Utah Athletic Department. She loved spending time with her family. Her home was always open to those who visited her and who needed a place to stay, room was always found for everyone.Bettie is preceded in death by her husband, her son Doug (Ranee) Lessig and two grandsons; Kevin Jackson and Danny Lessig. She had five siblings and was last to pass away. Her siblings were: Jim (Virginia) Whitmore, Aleen (Paul) Stewart, Sam (Lois) Whitmore, Don (Annette) Whitmore, and Helen (Jerry) Fowles. She is survived by her children Gary (Elaine), Diane (John) Jackson, and Linda Lessig. She had 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014, 11:00 a.m., at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South). Family and friends may attend a viewing Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, and Saturday morning one hour prior to the services at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
