The Westminster women’s soccer team saw its season come to a conclusion with a 3-0 loss at Northwood University on Saturday morning in the 31st annual NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship Opening Round.

Westminster goes out in the opening round for the second straight year and finishes the season at 15-4-2 overall. This was the Griffins third trip to the National Championship in the past four seasons.

Northwood (15-5-2) advances to the final site of the National Championship in Orange Beach, Alabama, with the victory. The Seahawks took the lead in Saturday’s game in the 39th minute with a goal from Hanna Lindstrom. They made it 2-0 just before halftime with a strike by Johanna Engberg.

The final goal came in the 74th minute on another goal from Engberg.

Northwood out-shot the Griffins, 13-5, and only allowed one shot on goal. Rylei North took three of the Griffins shots and had the only shot on goal.

Westminster set school records for wins (15) and winning percentage (.762) in 2014. The Griffins won their first Frontier Conference regular season title and claimed the conference crown for the third time in school history.
