The gritty Buffalo nailed a mid-range jumper with 2 seconds left in regulation to tie the game, and Valley went on to beat Millard, 80-73, in overtime.
In this high-scoring affair between the Buffaloes and the Eagles neither team was going to budge. The first quarter was a dog fight and was tied at 15 a piece when the buzzer sounded. Valley came out of the break on a roll, outscoring Millard 13-10 in the third. The Buffaloes looked as though they were going to take over the game in the third, but only led by two, 43-41, going into the fourth.
It continued to be a battle in the final period as neither team was ready to let the other take over. Millard led by two, 63-61, with under 20 seconds to go in regulation. The Eagles needed one more stop to give the home fans a victory. However, Shatto came up clutch in crunch time, hitting a jumper to send the game to overtime.
It was all Valley in the extra five minutes. It outscored Millard 17-10 in overtime to seal its first win of the season. The Buffaloes improve to 1-1 with the victory and the Eagles fall to 1-2.
Neither team shot well from the free-throw line. Valley shot a dull 55.2 percent going 16 of 29, while Millard shot 51.5 percent going 17 of 33.
