WEST VALLEY CITY — One man was critically injured Wednesday when his roommate stabbed him during an argument, police said.

Officers received a call reporting a stabbing at an apartment complex at 4000 S. Redwood Road, just before 5 a.m.

Peter Gatoro, 27, was trying to evict his roommate, when the argument escalated and Gatoro stabbed the man and pushed him outside, said West Valley Police Sgt. Blair Barfuss.

Responding officers found a man outside an apartment unit with "multiple stab wounds" in his abdomen Barfuss said. Officers found Gatoro inside with minor injuries.

The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. He was just coming out of surgery late Wednesday morning, Barfuss said. Police anticipate that he will recover from his wounds.

Gatoro was treated for minor injuries at another hospital and was then booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on investigation of domestic violence, attempted murder and obstruction of justice.

Investigators were waiting for a search warrant so they could enter the apartment and collect more evidence about the stabbing, Barfuss said. Police have not released the name of the injured man.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
