Reuben Jay Chynoweth Oct. 23, 1923 ~ March 16, 2014Our beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, Reuben Jay Chynoweth passed away peacefully at his home in Provo, Utah on Sunday, March 16, 2014. Reuben, age 90, was born in Panguitch, Utah on October 23, 1923, he was the fourth of nine children born to William and Zennetta Winsor Chynoweth. He started his life out in Henrieville, Utah. Later moving to Delta, Utah where he was active in football, basketball and graduated from Delta High School in 1943. After his graduation Reuben enlisted into the Navy. He fought in World War II serving in the South Pacific in the battle of Okinawa. In 1946, Reuben went to work for Kennecott Utah Copper. He then met his wife Betty Elayne Christiansen and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 11, 1948. They purchased their first home in Orem, Utah where Reuben and Betty started their sweet family of five wonderful children: Karen Marie, Kenneth Jay, Christie Elaine, Sherrie Lynn, Kim Billie. Reuben was then employed at the US Geneva Steel Mill in Orem in 1948. In 1981, Reuben retired after working 33 years. On April 21, 1976 Reuben lost his wife Betty. Reuben later married Beverly Mae Myers on July 14, 1977. Reuben lost Beverly on March 27, 2003. Then later he married Rose Higa in the Provo Temple on May 21, 2005.Reuben loved the great outdoors from the time he was very young. He enjoyed prospecting with his metal detector and hunting. Reuben was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Reuben is survived by his wife, Rose Higa Chynoweth, his daughters Karen (Darrell) Drummondo, Christy (Kirk) Jensen, Sherrie (Jeffrey) Hill and Kim (Richard) Poulson, a brother Perry (Bonnie) Chynoweth and a sister Mary Jane (Fred) Fuller, 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Reuben is preceded in death by his first wife Betty Elayne Christiansen Chynoweth, his second wife, Beverly Mae Myers Chynoweth, his son, Kenneth Jay (Sherrie Williams) Chynoweth, grandsons Jeffrey Ryan Hill and Kody Jay Chynoweth. His father and mother William and Zennetta Winsor Chynoweth, brothers and sisters William Stanley, Samuel Walter, Eugene, Janice Harmon, Bernice Graff and Ray Chynoweth.Funeral Services for Reuben Jay Chynoweth will be held Friday, March 21, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. in the North Edgemont Stake Center, located at the corner of Canyon Road and 4525 North in Provo. A viewing will be held previous to the funeral starting at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem following the services.
