WEST VALLEY CITY — A 60-year-old man was in critical condition Friday after being hit by another vehicle while riding his motorcycle.
Just before 12:30 p.m., the man was riding through the intersection of 1200 West and 3300 South when a mini sport-utility vehicle making a left turn struck him, said West Valley Police Lt. Dalan Taylor.
The impact from that collision knocked the man off his motorcycle and sent him skidding along the road for 25 to 30 feet. He ended up underneath an SUV stopped at the traffic light, Taylor said. The vehicle had to be lifted by emergency personnel to get the man out, he said.
The man, whose helmet was in a saddlebag on the motorcycle, suffered head injuries, "major fractures" to both legs and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, Taylor said.
The 65-year-old woman in the vehicle that hit him was also taken to the hospital in serious condition for a gash on her head that she suffered in the collision, he said.
An investigation into who had the right of way and who was at fault was continuing Friday.
