Obituary: ORTON, AMMON


Ammon Frank Orton1922 ~ 2014Ammon Frank Orton completed his earthly journey April 16, 2014 at the age of 92. He was born January 1, 1922 to Orien Orton and Wilma Dodds Orton in Panguitch, Utah.He married his sweetheart Cecile Houston, November 12, 1943 in Panguitch, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple. They celebrated over 67 years together and dedicated their lives to each other, their children and grandchildren. Although living in Salt Lake City for over 40 years they always called Panguitch home and enjoyed spending summers there. Frank was often heard saying, "So when are we going back to God's country?"Frank grew up in Panguitch, spending summers at Panguitch lake where his dad owned and operated a sawmill. He started hauling lumber throughout the state for his dad when he was just 16 years old. Later, upon returning home from the war, he drove truck for Utah Arizona Freightways, and then Consolidated Freightways for 35 years.A Veteran of WWII, Frank was drafted into the army at the age of 22. He proudly served his country as part of the 10th Mountain Division Ski Troops in Italy.He is survived by his son, Ronald (Kathy) Orton, daughter Olivia (David) Worthen, brother Bill Orton, and sister Sara Urie, 10 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his wife Cecile, his sister Emma, and his parents.We offer a heartfelt thank you to the Aspen Senior Center employees for their tender and loving care of our father. Also the staff at Garden Terrace skilled nursing for their thorough and compassionate care.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 So).
