LOGAN — A family of six was found safe Monday night after going missing in Logan Canyon earlier the same day.
Cache County search and rescue crews responded around 8:30 p.m. Monday to the call of a family that had gotten lost while turkey hunting in Logan Canyon, according to a statement by Cache County Sheriff Lynn Nelson.
Chris and Natalie Kaae and their four children, between 5 months and 8 years old, were turkey hunting about 12 miles north of Hardware Ranch when their vehicle broke down, Nelson said. The family began to trek down the canyon when they were stopped by deep snow. They found a cellphone signal and called 911 for help.
The family was confused about their location and could not direct dispatchers to their location, Nelson said.
Search and rescue crews responded and were able to verify where the family was by using their description and a GPS ping using the family's phone. Five teams of four people left from different starting points to find the family. Rescuers on snowmobiles found the family around 10:30 p.m.
Medical crews evaluated the family and found them to be cold but in good health.
