SANDY — Real Salt Lake striker Joao Plata was name Major League Soccer player of the week by the North American Soccer Reporters.
Plata scored two goals on Saturday to help RSL rally past the Chicago Fire, 3-2.
Plata has five goals and two assists on the season in just six games. That gives him 1.14 goals per 90 minutes, third in the league among players with at least 100 minutes played.

This is Plata’s second MLS Player of the Week honor — the Ecuadorian also won in 2011 with Toronto FC. This, combined with goalkeeper Nick Rimando's two awards, gives RSL three weekly awards in the first nine weeks of the season.
