Primary Children's Hospital kicked off it's ATV safety program, "Safe Trails, Serious Fun," on Wednesday. Safe Trails, Serious Fun encourages ATV riders to wear protective gear, and it reminds parents that children and adolescents should take an ATV rider safety education course. The Intermountain West has the fourth highest traumatic brain injury hospitalization rate in the country for children ages five to 14, according to a news release from Primary Children's. Nearly 7 percent of those injuries involve motor vehicles, including ATVs. A child’s risk of being hospitalized from riding an off-highway vehicle is a thousand times greater than from riding in a car.
